Joy Harjo (b.1951) served as the United States Poet Laureate from 2019–2022, the first Native American Poet Laureate in the history of the position. Harjo is a member of the Muscogee Nation. This poem comes from The Woman Who Fell From the Sky (Norton, 1994).
