R.S. Thomas (1913–2000) was a Welsh poet and Anglican priest. He was a fierce advocate of Welsh nationalism, and espoused a brand of Christian pacifism. He was also active in wildlife preservation. In 1996 he was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature.
