CS Lewis, Preparing for Easter: Fifty Devotional Readings from CS Lewis (New York: HarperOne, 2017), 213pp.

Of the making of CS Lewis books, there is no end. Many of his thirty-something books have sold more copies today than when he was alive. The Narnia books alone have sold an eye-popping 100 million copies and made into at least three movies. This book doesn't even have a editor, only a two-page preface by the publisher, nor does it have any end matter at all like an index. The book is formatted for the seven weeks of Lent, but even this is about as pedestrian as it gets. There is "Week One" and then a reading of about four pages for "Monday," "Tuesday," etc. I cannot discern any thematic coherence or progression for the seven sections, or even any claim for any Lenten themes. Nonetheless, it's still easy to imagine that many readers will find this a helpful volume for a Lenten reading discipline. Lewis still speaks today as a voice who made the Christian Story intellectually credible for many, who showed how that Story illuminates our understanding of the rest of the world, and who writes with wisdom about what living a Christian life today might look like.
